First Friesian Mare to Achieve KFPS Model title in the UK - by Jane Slevin

FHAGBI are delighted and indeed privileged to announce that Femma L (Teunis 332 x Oege 267 Pref), a stunning seven year old Friesian mare owned by Tracey and Rynardt Venter and bred by Leo Postma of the Netherlands, has become the first Friesian mare in the UK to be awarded the prestigious Model title by the Inspection Jury of Koninklijke Vereniging Het Friesch Paarden Stamboek (KFPS).

KFPS inspectors Jaap Boersma and Popke van de Meulen, from the Netherlands, praised Femma L for her upstanding presence, excellent conformation and superb movement, also awarding Femma L the Best Mare title and the overall Championship.

Each year only a handful of Friesian mares throughout the world receive the Model title.  To qualifyu for Model status, mares must be over seven years of age, have raised a foal, be awarded a first premium at a breeders show and a central inspection and mlso must have scoted in excess of 77 points in ridden and driven performance tests in the Netherlands.  In short, they must be amongst the best examples of the breed in the world.

Having scored an outstanding 81.5 points for her ridden test and 80 points for her carriage driving test following training in the Netherlands last year, Femma L is a very worthy recipient of this prestigious title and will now go on to further her career as a foundation mare for Tracey & Rynard's stud farm and we also hope to see her succeed in teh dressage arena.  She has certainly earned an extra few carrots in her tea!

A long journey from Aberdeenshire was made worthwhile for Mrs Melanie Given.  Her beautiful filly foal Anja (Ait410 x Time338) was awarded a First Premium, Best Foal and Reserve Champion.  Mr Dean Manders, from Essex, was also successful in the foal classes, with his lovely filly foal, Anskje fan Withers Farm (Brandus 345 x Teunis 332) also receiving a First Premium.

The 7 year old mare Fendela M (Tsjerk 328 x Oege 267 Pref) owned by Mrs L Egerton of Cheshire, retained her 2nd Premie Ster status and went on to be awarded Best Ridden Mare, by Riding Horse judge Fiona Bubb, whilst Hotske fan it Swellenest (Nanno 372 x Jurjen 303) delighted her owner Dr L Biship from Cheshire, also attaining 2nd Premium Ster status.

Only one stallion was awarded the Ster predicate, Jelle R (Gradus 356 x Naen 264), owned by Mr Terry Sykes and family of Bradford.   Maartin fan Bouzwicht (Karel 370 x Abe 346) owned by Mrs Cheryl Booth was Best Gelding achieving studbook status.

The Ridden Friesian classes were very well supported.  Best Ridden Gelding was awarded to Amelia Low, from Driffield, with Leo van Groot Archem (Ulke 338) and 1st place in the Ridden Stallion class went to Louise Atkinson, from Durham, with her stallion Hendrik fan Arummieden (Leffert 306 Pref x Oege 267 Pref).  The Riding Horse Championship was a very close run, with judge Fiona Bubb finally awardign the Champions's rosette to the stallion Hendrik fan Arummieden on the basis of his smooth, elastic paces and exceptional manners.

In addition, spectators were treated to a display of show driving by Mr Sybren Minkema, with Hidde, a Ster Stallion owned by Tracey and Rynardt Venter, put to their traditional Fries Sjees.
