Official Friesian Inspections 2011

The 2011 Friesian Inspections took place at Vale View Equestrian Centre near Grantham for the second year running on what had to be one of the hottest days of the year!

As a testament to the ongoing commitment by a number of breeders to improve the quality of the Friesian horse bred in the UK and Ireland the homebred horses stole a couple of the top titles.

Visiting the UK for the first time were members of the KFPS Jury, Louise Hompe and Sabien Zwage who were joined by top trainer Piet Sibma and his team of professional runners to present the horses at their best.

Manders Friesians once again put forward some beautiful foals from their Ster mares with the colt foal Luke fan Withers Farm (Norbert 444) being awarded 1st premie and overall Foal Champion, a title the Manders have held for a number of years now.  Other 1st premie foal success went to Rynardt and Tracey Venters Jolanda fan de Groenbank (Gjalt 426) a very tall filly out of their Model mare Femma L (Teunis 332)

The 4yo mare class was headed by Colin Richardsons beautiful filly Yana (Rindert 406), also bred in the UK by Jackie Crockett who made up for missing the 2010 inspections by gaining a 2nd Premie Ster.  Top honours in the 3yo class went to yet another homebred filly, Anja (Ait 420) owned and produced by Rynardt & Tracey Venter who had taken her on as a yearling from Melanie Given in Scotland after she achieved 1st Premie and Reserve Champion at the 2008 Inspections.  Anja was praised for her excellent racial type, her powerful trot and use of her hind legs which undoubtedly helped her to take the Overall Breed Champion title for the day.

Despite being a little out of shape having a foal at foot, the UK's first and only Model Mare, Femma L (Teunis 332) came forward for inspection to see if she still had what it takes to get a 1st Premie.  She did not disappoint and although she was a little rusty she took the runners round the arena and gained the fifth 1st Premie of her career.

Christiana Rutkowski had a day to remember when her 5yo gelding Tjarda v.d Peester Hoeve (Dries 421) received the Best Gelding title.

There were 5 stallions who came forward to try for the much sought after Ster title but only one of the red white and blue rosettes were handed out on the day.  This, along with the Champion Stallion title went to the 4yo stallion Wouter (Arjen 417) owned in partnership by his breeder, L Postma of the Netherlands and Rynardt and Tracey Venter.

The riding and dressage classes followed on from the Inspections although sadly because of the heat a number of competitors decided to leave early.  Those left put on a great show with Lyn Egertons beautiful Provisional Kroon mare Fendela M (Tsjerk 328) taking top honours in the dressage and Lisa Ebnets Ster mare, Marchje winning the ridden class.
