Lost, Stolen or Damaged Passports & Registration Papers

IMPORTANT:
DUPLICATE PASSPORTS and DUPLICATE REGISTRATION PAPERS

Download application form for a duplicate passport and / or registration papers

If you have purchased a horse without a passport but have the registration papers, or have lost your original horse passport

- Your veterinary surgeon must come out, verify the microchip of the horse and complete the DP1 Application Form (Passport -Identification Document for Duplicate Passport / Registration Paper).

- You must also declare how and when the passport went missing using DP2 Application Form and last known keeper of the passport.

- Both completed forms must then be sent to the KFPS with a request for a duplicate passport.

- The KFPS will invoice you for the DUPLICATE passport and once paid will issue a DUPLICATE passport. This will be stamped as such and also the horse will automatically be declared not for human consumption.

Likewise, if you have lost your horse's KFPS registration paper, or the KFPS registration paper was not handed over at the time of sale, nor sent on to the KFPS, then you will need to apply to the KFPS for a duplicate registration paper. Again, it will be necessary to have your veterinary surgeon to verify the horse's microchip and complete the Identification form.

REPLACEMENT PASSPORTS

These are issued only to animals which do not have means of identification.

Friesian Horses without registration papers and passports

For Friesian horses without KFPS registration papers and passports, please contact Sarah Dobson ( sardob@gmail.com), and attach a copy of the horse's pedigree to the email, for advice / information on the possibility DNA testing and registration. In some cases the horse is eligible for registration but the breeder has not bothered to complete the registration of the horse before sale.
If the sire and dam of horse were not KFPS registered it is very unlikely that the KFPS will register the offspring, this very much depends upon the pedigree of the horse and how far back the pedigree must be traced to find KFPS registered stock.

WARNING!!!!! BFHS / UK FRIESIAN FOUNDATION FARM

Please note that the BFHS (British Friesian Horse Society) was an unofficial organisation and was not recognised by the KFPS. Horses with pedigrees issued by the BFHS or UK Friesian Foundation farm, may not be referred to as registered / papered Friesian Horses.

If your horse has a passport issued by the UK Friesian Foundation Farm (Inverness) or BFHS please note that these are not official / legal passports and you must contact your local:

TRADING STANDARDS ANIMAL HEATH OFFICER or DEFRA ANIMAL HEALTH OFFICE IMMEDIATELY FOR ADVICE.

Cross-Bred Friesian Horses

The KFPS and FHAGBI do not recognise cross bred Friesian Horses (cross breeding is strictly forbidden by the KFPS) and do not have a registry for them, nor can FHAGBI arrange for passports to be issued to cross bred horses, nor for passports to be over-stamped with sire / dam information.

Death of KFPS Registered Friesian Horse

Following the death of a KFPS Registered Friesian Horse, you must return both the Registration paper and the Passport, with a covering letter stating date and reason for death / Euthanasia (and a letter from your veterinary surgeon if possible) to:

KFPS
Oprijlaan 1
9205BZ
Drachten
The Netherlands

The KFPS will then issue you with a credit for the deposit that you initially paid when you transferred the registration papers into your name. If you have not transferred the horse into your name then please still return the passport and the registration paper.

Many people wish to hold onto the late horses' passports as a keepsake. This is possible, but you must first return the passport to the KFPS, and inform them of your wish for it to be returned once they have stamped it as Null and Void due to horse being deceased.

Please also inform FHAGBI that your horse has passed away.
